Stress can be defined as a state of emotional or mental strain which in most cases have adverse effects. Stress affects the mental health of a person. Many things can cause stress. Different people usually have different stress triggers. Our workplaces can be our source of stress. Among the things at a workstation that can lead to stressful situations are long working hours, working under dangerous conditions, and also being unhappy with the job. The other category of stress is the life stress. These emanate from the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job, getting married and much more.

Sometimes however, stress can come from inside. Meaning that one can stress themselves out by worrying about certain things. Examples of such are fear and certainty, attitude and perceptions, unrealistic expectations, and major life changes. Stress is a form of mental instability. Hence, the need to be stress free. There are some negative health effects that are associated with stress. These include a headache, fatigue, difficulty in sleeping and irritability. Some of the health implications of stress can be life-threatening. The good news is that there are ways to manage stress.

Below are examples of tips that can assist a person to deal with stress. Stressed people are advised to avoid caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine. Nicotine and caffeine are examples of stimulants. These substances will increase the levels of stress rather than reducing. Aalcohol, on the other hand, is a depressant in large quantities but not an effective way of dealing with stress. Getting more sleep is a simple way that can help a stressed person to reduce the stress levels. This is so, since lack of enough sleep is capable of causing stress. There are also some relaxation techniques that one might try to help them reduce stress. Most of them are tried and tested.

The other way of dealing with stress is through doing exercise. There is an increase in the stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline when someone is stressed. Exercise, therefore, can be used as a surrogate to metabolize excessive stress hormones so that one can reach a more relaxed state. Even the slow exercises can still assist one to achieve these effects. Walking in fresh air can also be useful. There are even better benefits of incorporating physical exercise into your daily routine.

There are certain ways on how exercise help in stress management. One of these mechanisms is through pumping of endorphins into one’s body. The endorphins are known as brain’s feel-good transmitters. Exercises help a person to forget about someone’s day irritations. Exercise is also effective in improving the mood of a person. The symptoms of depression and increasing the confidence of a person are the ways that exercise assist in improving the mood of a person.
