Importance of Increasing the Vocabulary For a Fiction Author
On a regular basis, fiction authors use certain vocabularies when writing. For you to have a big number of words to choose from when writing, you need to learn other vocabularies. To make the writing more appealing, a fiction writer should use verbs, nouns, modifiers and adjectives when writing. What makes up good writing is how well you put the words together and how the words themselves are. When you are reading a novel that is engaging, it is easy to get into it. Reread the novel again after reading and enjoying it. Examining how the work is written is the goal. The aspect of writing is where you should focus on, they include how the plot and characters were developed and the technical aspects like grammar. You should know that American and British authors write differently.
The authors differ in the use of words, spelling and punctuation. For example, among is used by the Americans and amongst by the British. It is important that you stick to the standard rules when writing for American readers or for British readers.
Fiction authors can and should expand the base of the vocabulary that they use. Anytime when they are reading another author’s work, they can do this. A new vocabulary that you come across should be noted. This seems to be general knowledge, but most authors do not usually do this. It is one of the many ways of building your vocabulary even though it is a logical thing to do. Another thing to do is to get a notebook or any other system that you desire, and make categories that suit your needs. When people are talking or when there is a dialogue on the TV and when you are reading you should be keen to listen. Be mindful of verbs, nouns, modifiers and adjectives or any compound nouns being used. Chances are you will be surprised of the words you already use, the ones you didn’t know about and those you never thought of using. Keeping a list of the words or phrases that your characters might occasionally use is important. Use a phrase like ‘her eyes surveyed the room ‘ when describing the action of the eye.
You will be able to describe vividly what is going on internally and externally regarding your characters if you take notes of such words and phrases. You will be able to rephrase your words and write authentic and creative vocabulary when using the lists you kept. Use this list when making your draft.
